Passing By presents two films that piece together brief segments from many different journeys into ever growing sequences of sights-seen-along-the-way, while looking out of the window of a car, a train, a plane or even just pushing a shopping trolley around the local super market.

How to add your own video clips

Simply by uploading your video clips to YouTube and tagging them with either passingby-looking-left or passingby-looking-right, your clips will automatically be included in the corresponding Passing By film.

Before uploading a clip please read the guidelines below.

Guidelines
  1. Please only use the Passing By tags for clips that conform completely to one of the two categories: moving forward looking left or moving forward looking right. (see the note about tags below for more info)
  2. Please title your clips starting with the country or state/province in which it was taken followed by a few words describing it. For example: "Chicago, On the Freeway" or "England, Dorset, Rolling Hills".
  3. Only clips that are at least 7 seconds long and no longer than 60 seconds will be included.
  4. Please only contribute clips that fill the normal YouTube aspect ratio of 4:3.

Important! note about tags Please only use the tag passingby-looking-left if your clip was taken while moving forward and looking left for the entire length of the clip. Similarly, please only tag your clip with passingby-looking-right if your clip was taken while moving forward and looking right for the entire length of the clip.

* If you have some clips that are shot looking forward rather than left or right then please contribute them to the film Passing Through instead.

Tips for clips
  • If you are uploading several clips that are all part of a single journey and you want these to appear in the correct sequence you will need to upload the clips in reverse order as clips are shown in reverse order of date and time uploaded.
  • Any typos in your clip tag will prevent it from being included in the Passing By film. To make sure there's no mistake you can copy and paste the appropriate tag from here: passingby-looking-left or passingby-looking-right.
  • Please note, once your clips are live on YouTube, or once you add a Passing By tag to existing clips, it can take approximately a further 24hrs for the clips to enter the YouTube database at which time they will automatically become part of the Passing By films.

*Note: If you want to control the size of the plugin in your page with css you will need to apply it to the element within which you paste the code above rather than to the passingby div itself.

If the code above is not working on your site or you want to embed it at a specific size without relying on the size of the containing element, then copy-and-paste the code below and edit the dimensions ("178","152") to whatever works for you.
